The M1 Story
In late 2006, the vision for what would become the M1 first took shape. As a lifelong knife collector, martial artist, and enthusiast, I set out to design something of my own — not for business, but for passion. With the guidance of expert knife maker Steve Woods, that vision became reality. What began as a small, private project revealed something greater — and from that, Combative Edge was born.
Named After My First Customer
The first design needed a name. For me, the answer was already there.
My grandfather, Adolfo Mottola, was the most influential person in my life. His strength, his values, and the quiet dignity with which he carried himself shaped who I am in ways words can never fully capture. Long before the first model had a name, he insisted he would be my first customer. That belief carried me through every step of the journey.

Today, we return to where it all began. The Original M1 is not a production run — it is a limited edition rebirth, designed in the USA and brought to life through Italian craftsmanship. Each piece honors the heritage and legacy of the design that started it all.
Rendered in Böhler M390 — one of the finest blade steels in the world, prized by collectors for its mirror-polish potential, exceptional edge retention, and corrosion resistance — and paired with a full titanium frame lock, the M1 is as beautiful as it is capable. The lines are clean, the fit and finish are precise, and the balance in hand is unmistakable.
